Whale of a Time

Discipline: Swim
Time: 1:13
Distance: 2000m of various drills etc

Decided it was time I had another swim, and hoped to ease off the legs that had been a bit achey, particularly in the quads. I arrived at the pool about 5:15, and there was still a fair number of people there. For next time I think I'll leave it until about 6pm.

Anyway - got down to it, and it took a while to get back into it. I did a mix of kicks, arm drills with the pull buoy, plus just some general head position and bilateral breathing drills. I've always felt a lot less balanced breathing to the right, and I think I tracked this down to not keeping my left arm out as long (i.e. I start the "Pull" bit of the stroke earlier than I do on the other side). I'm not sure if I do that if it's not on a "breathing" stroke. Anyhow - I experimented, and my impression was that it definitely helped.

Pool was a bit too crowded to do too many lengths on the trot. I did do a 100m time trial and did 2:12 (oops - slowed down too much!) and a final 50m in 50.7 (good, but it felt better than that - maybe it was the after effects of the lurgy).

Things to work on
  • reinforcing the better balance for bilateral breathing
  • getting the "S" shape back in my "pulls" - I've been going a bit straight back

lately I think and potentially losing power
