Bugger... :-(
Everything's still going great at George's, loving the place, loving the people, and loving the atmosphere. The course looks fascinating, and starts properly today. Only slight niggle is that I think I'm going to find everythign we do fascinating, and at the moment that includes stuff outside of physio because we're in with the medics for some classes and it's good for us to get an appreciation of the other areas, but I think I'm going to want to know everything about everything.
Anyway - yesterday we conveniently didn't have a class in the morning (this won't continue) and I went to see the orthopaedic consultant for a follow up on my knee. I was optimistic as the knee seemed to have been behaving itself and made good progress since the op. Unfortunately it wasn't good news. He was pleased at the progress, but said that when he'd gone in with the camera and stuff, there was lots of osteoarthritic degeneration and basically the knee was knackered. The hyaline cartilage was cracking and I should definitely not run on roads, although short treadmill sessions and cycling was okay.

Thats not good for ironman training, maybe you could switch to xterra.
I am so sorry about your knee - that is terrible news.
I hope the biking can come through strongly to give you all the exercise satisfaction you need.
Good news about the course though
Oh Bear - thats really rubbish on the knee front? How about X country - are you still able to do that?
That wasn't meant to be a "?", rather a "!". Doh!
thanks Min - that's not a bad idea - might be a bit of a step up from teadying it :-)
oh tough Bear - thats not great news tho probably not that much of a surprise as you will learn in the next couple of years ;-))
maybe you could get hold of the exercise programme for OA knee and start the prehab - ive seen a few people who are at the painful stage and the exercises are about strengthening and maintaining the strength of the supporting soft tissue around the knee - even people who are at the TKR stage benefit from it so im sure it will be very helpful in your case
keep focussed on the Physio too - leave those medics to get on with it and concentrate on being a good Physio Student ;-))
and you wont have time for Ironman now anyway !
so sorry to hear that :(
glad the course is going well...
Just caught up with this
:(
off road definitely the answer
also-does your consultant run-if not, then id get another opinion
its easier for a medic to sya Just dont do it
Very sorry about your knee :-(
I agree about getting another opinion. It couldn't hurt.
How do I get another opinion peeps? I can't afford to go private :-(
ask at Uni - im sure you well get plenty of well informed opinions
